When birds finish bathing they are cute, skinny, spiky sponges. They have that unique birdie scent to them and they like to preen on a perch.

You can use a hair dryer but for lovebirds you need to be mindful of the heat. We keep it at a distance that we test out by holding up our hand. You also don’t want it too far away that it blows cold air. Air movement over a surface increases evaporation. Evaporation is a cooling process which is why you sweat and fan yourself. Blowing air that’s cold by the time it gets to your bird can rapidly drop its core temperature. So keep the bird on your arm or finger and monitor the heat. Most birds like a dryer if they can handle the noise and they’re either spread their wings to dry off or they’ll sit still and start closing their eyes and get sleepy from the warmth. Do have a hair dryer in case of an emergency like the gravy story I told earlier.

Most birds like to be by you after a bath. You are warm and part of the flock. Herbie likes to use my beard as a comb and most birds will rub their heads on your cheek. This is also where you’ll see them rub their beakys on a perch and where a sand perch will help them maintain their beak.
