I love cold drinking water and my birds do too. For whatever reason, our birds prefer cold cold water for stationary baths. Not water with ice in it but as cold out of the tap as you can get it, both for drinking but surprisingly, also for baths. Its good for a few reason to used cold water. First is due to microbes. The lower the temperature, the less mobile microbes are. Less mobile = less microbe division. So having cold water decreases the chances of having microbes in the water and as its still cool it helps prevent them from growing until the water eventually works its way toward room temperature. Cold water also has less metal and minerals in it, especially if you live in a hard water or heavy mineral deposit area. Running the water for a few seconds to get it cold helps flush away any sedimented metals that have hitched a waterpark ride. You would think that since cold showers for us really suck, birds would have the same preferences. I guess not. As soon as they see me put that green cup down on the table, they all know what is in it. Fresh, cold cold water and if one of them has the hankerin’… they’ll actually surround the base like backup dancers at a Lady Gaga concert and begin their bath with the overspray of the first bird while waiting their turn in line.
